Our youth basketball program introduces the game of basketball to children 3-7 years by teaching the basic fundamentals of the sport. Children will learn how to dribble, shoot, pass, and other fun and exciting basketball skills with age appropriate equipment and expectations.
Dribble: Using an age appropriate size ball (size 3 for 3-4 years and size 4 for 5-7 years), players will participate in drills and games that help develop the fine motor skills to be able to dribble a basketball.
Shoot: Players will learn how to push the ball up to the net at an age appropriate level for their gross motor skills. Older player will begin to learn how to do lay ups.
Passing: Passing and team play are very important in basketball. Our younger players will work on being able to pass the ball to their teammates and to know they will get another chance with the ball. Our older players will learn bounce pass, overhead pass, and chest pass.
Game Play: Toward the end of our season, players will engage in games. With us, competition is the beginning stages and winning isn't the most to take away from the game. Coaches act as partners and referees as players utilize the skills they have been learning. Because of this, you will see traveling going uncalled and score not being kept.
