Development of fundamental motor skills during childhood are the basis for developing the skills to participate in sports and leisure activities. The success of developing these skills at a young age can have a positive effect on health throughout the lifespan by increasing the participation in physical activity.
Using a wide variety of Gross Motor Equipment, children will practice a range of skills through games and activities.
This program introduces the fundamentals of sports through games, dance and movement in a non-competitive, fun environment. The goal is to develop motor skills, balance and confidence that can be applied to all sports, while also building a lifelong love for exercise.
Children will work on the development of:
Locomotor skills such as running, jumping, hopping, galloping, rolling, leaping and dodging, horizontal jump, slide.
Manipulative skills such as throwing, catching, kicking, striking and trapping, dribble, overhand throw, and underhand roll
Stability skills such as balance, twisting, turning and bending
